Italy Bad weather in the peninsula the perfect storm breaks out downpours gusts of wind storms thunderstorms

But the situation is set to change quickly in this first glimpse of summer, in fact in the next few hours a disturbance is expected that will determine "a marked" worsening of the weather in much of the center-north with a sharp drop in temperatures that will also lift the south from the heat that has gripped it for days. From this evening, showers and storms of strong intensity are expected in Piedmont, Lombardy, Veneto and the autonomous province of Bolzano, while tomorrow they will also extend to Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany.

The civil protection has issued a yellow alert for 8 regions: Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Umbria, the autonomous province of Bolzano and part of Lombardy, Marche and Abruzzo. Meanwhile, the damage is being counted in Alto Adige where there have been violent storms, hail and strong gusts of wind that have caused quite a few inconveniences. There have been over 200 interventions by the fire brigade for flooding in cellars and garages, removal of obstacles to traffic, cutting of branches and unsafe plants, landslides, mudslides and debris flows. The strong wind also blew the roofs off houses and caused damage to roofs. In Naz-Sciaves, where the Alpenflair Festival was taking place, over 10,000 participants were evacuated. The rainfall that affected Trentino on the night between 20 and 21 June caused the Sarca River, the Noce torrent and the Adige to exceed some initial warning thresholds. The situation is also difficult in south-eastern Switzerland, where three people are missing due to heavy flooding, especially in Zermatt. In Bolzano, a storm damaged the Galizia sports centre in Laives. The strong wind "even tore off the roofing of the stands, causing it to fly onto the football pitch".
The bad weather of the past few hours has also caused the devastation of crops in various areas of Casalese. The Italian Confederation of Farmers of the province of Alessandria reported it: "Corn and soy completely destroyed, poplar groves ruined. For many farmers the season is lost".
Flooding and damage also in Valtellina and Valchiavenna, here too the ones paying the price were vineyards and fruit trees, especially apple orchards. In Lombardy there were over 340 interventions by the fire brigade, of which 108 in the province of Milan, while yesterday evening the Coast Guard intervened on Lake Como to save two pleasure boaters with a broken engine in difficult conditions "with the lake rough, with gusts of wind up to twenty knots from the north-east and with pouring rain".
